4 Springtime Lexington Events
People call Lexington, Kentucky, the Horse Capital of the World because of its long history of horse breeding and racing. The city has two racetracks, and the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm with a museum. You can go riding, hike at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, check out the area’s many historic buildings, and more. Here are some fun springtime group events in Lexington to head to in convoy.
Lexington Comic and Toy Con
Lexington Comic and Toy Con is an early March event that includes celebrity guests, artists, comic creators, and vendors. It’s held at the Lexington Convention Center downtown, and it’s lots of fun for kids and adults, especially if everyone goes as a group and rides together.
Spirits: Sip and Absorb the Essence of Our Past
Spirits is an evening event in late March at the Waveland State Historic Site, also called the Joseph Bryan House. Joseph Bryan, a settler who followed Daniel Boone through the Cumberland Gap, owned this plantation. Today, it’s a museum that depicts life in the 1840s. Spirits includes an exclusive tour with Kentucky spirits like whiskey and spirited characters to entertain you and teach you about the time period. Reservations are required for this popular event. If you don’t want to worry about a designated driver, or want to head to this historical and fun event with all your friends together, it’s a great idea to hire a car service to do the dirty work for you!
LexGemShow
The LexGemShow, a mineral and gem show, is sponsored by the Blue Grass Gem and Mineral Club, and it’s also held in late March at the Clarion Hotel. The event features minerals, jewelry, equipment dealers, exhibits, prizes, and auctions. Scouts in uniform get free admission, and it’s perfect for teaching kids about minerals while finding great deals.
Mayfest Arts Fair
The Mayfest Arts Fair takes place every year over Mother’s Day weekend. The free outdoor festival is held in Gratz Park between Transylvania University and the Carnegie Center. You can enjoy up to 100 booths with unique art and crafts, live entertainment, food, activities for kids, free carriage rides, and a traditional Morris and Maypole dance.
