About the Distillery

The original H. E. Pogue Distillery once stood where the newer Old Pogue Distillery sits today, in Maysville, Kentucky. Known as the birthplace of bourbon, Maysville nestles against the Ohio River and Limestone Creek, some 75 minutes north of Lexington.

Family roots run deep in Maysville, and it is just outside of this town where you’ll find the original Pogue homestead, an artisan distillery, and everything necessary to produce fine small-batch craft bourbon and rye whiskey.

The Old Pogue Distillery produces only 200 barrels of American whiskey each year, using old family recipes.

Distillery tours

The Old Pogue Distillery offers tours of their facility by appointment only, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. You have a choice of a morning tour at 11:00 a.m. or an afternoon tour at 2:00 p.m. The distillery also offers a 2:00 p.m. Sunday tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes because it’s an uphill walk to the distillery.

The tours are free, and they end with a sampling. Best of all, the Master Distiller usually leads each tour. Be sure to stop by the gift shop, located inside the old historic Pogue family home. You’ll also be able to see memorabilia from the Prohibition Era.

Reserving tour space is easy. When you schedule your tour online, you’ll be able to see how many seats are left for each showing.

Because of limited parking spaces at the Old Pogue Distillery, it’s best to secure your bourbon transportation with GoldShield.
